17 Degrees and Light Showers

Hi, hello, hi, erm in case you weren’t aware, it’s August. The eight month of the year in which summer is supposed to greet us Brits with warm and luscious sunshine. Ahem. It’s thundered, it’s lightened and it’s rained buckets all over the past week – we’re lucky that York’s river hasn’t burst its banks yet. And here I am whining about the weather again, but seriously though. It’s August, my complaints are perhaps more legitimate than they usually are.

Rainy days are the time for watching films and God bless Netflix because I am watching The Desolation of Smaug FINALLY. The only time I’ve actually watched it is on the plane from Mexico and let me tell you, I wasn’t in the most concentrated mood. So I’ve got The Hobbit on, and the rain at the window and to be frank, it’s quite peaceful. Maybe that’s because everybody’s at work or out at the minute, but it’s nice and chilled – other than the bright yellow light in the middle of the living room; I don’t think the landlord has heard of mood lighting. At least I can see.

As I’m sure you know by now, I am constantly forgetting to update this blog, which doesn’t do it justice because I’ve been doing it for about five years now and it deserves updating. There’s never anything interesting to say though which is why I’m here writing a post about nothing in particular. The weather seems to be my favourite topic so it seems that all I can do is small-talk. Small-blog hehe. Okay. Enough of that.

I’m starting two new jobs soon (two very different ones at that) so there should be some interesting stories come out of those. Unless you don’t like trains, but I’ll get into that later.

Please have a very happy week, I know it’s Monday but it’ll be Friday soon and I’ll find some sort of topic before you can say WordPress.

Thank you.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (Not Review)

tauriel-kicks-ass-in-new-tv-spot-for-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug-watch-now-149430-a-1385366847So I’ve been reading a lot of reviews for the new Hobbit film and may I just politely point out that when you are watching an adaptation of a book, it is going to be something entirely different to the original novel despite how ‘faithful’ the director has been to the author. One review exclaims that ‘new characters have been added – a woman for heaven’s sake! And what? Are you aware of all the theories that Tolkien was not particularly a fan of the female gender and his books can be said to be quite sexist? I’m writing about something like this in my dissertation for uni which includes talking about women in the films and how they relate to the books. If you write a review on the film, please write it about the film and not how it compares to the book, thanks. Also no spoilers because I haven’t seen in yet 😉

The Desolation of Smaug

It’s looming. It’s getting ever so close and I am absolutely buzzing for it. I’ve got three posters from somewhere on Google and thought I’d share them with you, so let’s have a nice little discussion about the pure awesomeness that we be bestowed upon us before long!

Here we see Martin Freeman/Bilbo Baggins/Dr. Watson kinda breaking the fourth wall, looking rather worried at something. Ooh there’s going to be a lot more of this facial expression, seeing as that’s all there was in the first one. Not saying this is a bad thing, I love his character 😀

This one’s all dramatic, right? Right?? It’s all misty and mysterious and vague but we know exactly what’s going to happen. For those of you who need it explaining, Bilbo is going in that big scary door. Yah.

I do believe this is the latest one in which we are shown Benedict Cumberbatch’s scarily yellow eye with Bilbo in the reflection. Looks like there’s gonna be a massive fight. Beaut. (Btw, it’s not actually Benedict’s eye. He’s not a dragon IRL)

So we’re all excited, yes?? AND LEGOLAS IS IN THIS ONE. Score! 😉
